York County business donates more than $2,000 to Harvest of Blessing, as food pantry hunts for new home

Leg Up Farmers Market raised money for the nonprofit pantry last month. The pantry is in need of a new space to operate.

YORK, Pa. — From one helping hand to the other, a check worth more than $2,000 was given to Harvest of Blessing in York on Tuesday.

The manager of Leg Up Farmers Market presented the money to Jural Toby, the pantry's CEO and founder.

“It really touched my heart and I wish a lot more businesses that hear what Leg Up Farmers Market is doing would jump on the bandwagon and do the same," said Toby.

Through February, the grocery store raised money for the food pantry.

“And our customers, as usual, in their amazing generosity, very much responded," said Dan Stump, Leg Up Farmers Market manager.

Every dollar is crucial, as Harvest of Blessing remains on the hunt for a new home.

The non-profit rents its current spot from the York County Food Bank.

The Food Bank is raising the rent to a price the pantry cannot afford.

“A lot of the warehouses, buildings around here are leasing at like $10,000 a month," said Toby.

At first, the Food Bank was giving Harvest of Blessing three to six months to find a new location. The deadline has now been extended until October, according to Toby.

She tells FOX43 there's still a long way to go.

“We need funding, we need money," said Toby. "That’s the biggest roadblock right now... money.”

But she remains hopeful the pantry will find a permanent spot and be able to continue serving its thousands of clients.

“It’s a whole amazing feeling to see it in operation, in person and the scale of it blows you away," said Stump.

“It’s like the walls are crushing in on you but all things are possible and I’m keeping that in the forefront of my brain and believe things will work out," added Toby.

GoFundMe has also been created to help Harvest of Blessing.
