YORK, Pa. — Principals at York Suburban Middle School camped out on the school's roof from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning.
Principals Dr. Michael Sneddan and Mr. Tyler Laudeman battled the November cold in an unconventional recognition of their students' success in a fundraiser and to kick off a canned food and coat drive.
The student's annual Trojan Takeover fundraiser campaign goal was to raise $15,000.
The students raised over $17,000.
Sneddan and Laudeman said the rooftop campout was a reward for the students exceeding their expectations.
"School is for more than just education," said Sneddan. "It's a chance for these students to make memories they'll never forget."
On Thursday, York Suburban Middle School kicked off the annual canned food and coat drive. District residents and students were invited to drop off canned goods and gently used coats/toys between 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and wave to Dr. Snedden and Mr. Laudeman while they were on the roof.
The principals finally touched the ground at 8 a.m. Friday.
