York County volunteers prepare to help families in need this Thanksgiving

Volunteers with YorkGiving spent Wednesday evening making boxes at the York Expo Center in Manchester Township.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — An annual program that distributes food to hundreds of York County families in need for Thanksgiving is getting ready for the big holiday.

Volunteers with 'YorkGiving' made boxes at the York Expo Center in West Manchester Township on Wednesday evening.

Powered by the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry, between 1,600-1,700 families have signed up to receive assistance from 'YorkGiving.'

Organizers of 'YorkGiving' say the annual event is the definition of a community effort.

"I think it's something we all have our heart in," said Shari Gordon, executive director of Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. "It's well worth the time spent."

The 'YorkGiving' distribution takes place Saturday and Sunday. While organizers of the program are happy to help those in need, they do stress that families must pre-register for the event.

For those interested in helping out their fellow community members, organizers said they still need volunteers.
