MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — A Cumberland County man has been charged with sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl multiple times earlier this year, according to Lower Allen Township Police.

Christopher Jaquay, 44, of Mechanicsburg, is charged with multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor and endangering the welfare of a child, charging documents state.

The alleged assaults occurred multiple times while the victim was staying at a home on the 2300 block of South Market Street, according to police.

Authorities began investigating in July, charging documents state.

The victim reported Jaquay touched her genitals under her clothing multiple times, and that the touching made her feel "uncomfortable," police claim.

During a forensic interview at the Harrisburg Child Advocacy Center, the victim identified Jaquay as the person who touched her. She claimed he woke her up during the night and touched her stomach and vaginal area and described the experience as "painful," according to police.

The victim estimated the inappropriate touching occurred "three or four times" earlier this year, police said.

Jaquay allegedly asked the victim to keep the alleged sexual assaults a secret. She only reported her allegations to authorities out of fear that the assaults could become worse, police said.

A relative of the victim reportedly confronted Jaquay about the allegations, and he denied any wrongdoing, according to police.

Jaquay reportedly turned himself in to authorities this month. A preliminary hearing on the charges has been scheduled at a later date.
