Cumberland County man arrested, facing extradition to Virginia after allegedly participating in street takeover

Dylan Heckard, 20, of Mechanicsburg, is accused of participating in a street takeover in Virginia that wounded at least one officer. He is facing extradition.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A Cumberland County man was arrested in Carlisle yesterday after authorities in Virginia contacted Middlesex Township police with an arrest warrant for his participation in a street takeover last weekend.

FOX43's sister station WUSA9 reports that Dylan Heckard, 20, of Mechanicsburg, was wanted for his participation in a street takeover in Virginia that wounded at least one officer.

Also known as bangers, street takeovers usually involve a large crowd gathered to watch people driving recklessly in circles, according to WUSA9.

Heckard allegedly was part of a crowd that swarmed a police officer's cruiser as she tried to disperse people gathered behind a warehouse around 3 a.m. on March 31, according to Fairfax County police. The revelers are accused of attempting to remove the police car's license plate, brandishing a rifle and jumping and banging on the cruiser.

More officers arrived to control the scene, and one was allegedly hit and suffered a minor wrist injury as one of the drivers tried to escape.

Heckard is one of four suspects identified from the incident.

The Middlesex Township Police Department says it arrested him at a home on Liam Lane in Carlisle yesterday, April 4. He faces felony charges of abduction, wearing a mask in certain places, assault on a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice. He is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
