NEWVILLE, Pa. — A Cumberland County high school was dismissed early today after educators received "what appears to be a fraudulent threat."

Big Spring High School was evacuated earlier this morning out of an abundance of caution after officials became aware of the threat. The district said in a statement that initial assessments suggest the threat is not credible.

Police were called in to conduct a thorough sweep of the school premises after the students were moved to Mount Rock Elementary School.

"We understand that incidents like this can be alarming," superintendent Dr. Gaurante said in a statement. "We are working closely with local authorities to resolve this matter as swiftly and safely as possible. The well-being of our students is our top priority, and we do not take such situations lightly."

After further discussion with law enforcement, school officials decided to bus high school students home from Mount Rock for the day.
