BOILING SPRINGS, Pa. — Two South Middleton School District students are facing charges after reportedly bringing a gun to Boiling Springs High School last week, superintendent Kevin J. O'Donnell Jr. said in an email to parents and guardians.
The gun was brought to school by one of the students, who gave it to the other student in a school restroom after dismissal last Friday, O'Donnell confirmed.
The school administration was alerted by State Police, who contacted the school as part of an ongoing theft investigation; The students are facing charges and have been removed from school, pending disciplinary action.
South Middleton School District will continue to cooperate with the State Police investigation, O'Donnell continued.
"We are providing this safety update to you to ensure you have accurate information," O'Donnell said in his announcement. "You should also know that an increased police presence is expected at district facilities in the coming days."
O'Donnell encouraged parents and guardians to "have conversations" with their children about the incident and stated that staff members are available to assist children if needed.
"This unfortunate event is a reminder that school safety and security remains the highest priority of all of us to maintain and support a safe environment for our school community," O'Donnell said.
