CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Bruce Darby, who once called himself "the biggest pill dealer in Chambersburg," was sentenced this week to life in prison for drug trafficking, money laundering, and weapons offenses following his conviction in January, U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam announced.

The 46-year-old Chambersburg man was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Court Judge Christopher C. Connor, who presided over his trial.

Connor referred to the evidence against Darby presented at trial when issuing the sentence, noting that Darby's criminal history was one of the worst he'd seen in 23 years as a judge.

Darby's conviction was the result of an extensive investigation of his drug trafficking activities by the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, which found that he and a co-conspirator brought in Oxycodone pills from New York City to the Chambersburg area, where he sold them between 2018 and 2019.

Darby continued selling drugs, even while incarcerated in York County Prison, and was also convicted in August 2019 of delivering fentanyl to a customer who later died of an overdose.

The jury heard a monitored telephone call in which Darby referred to himself as "the biggest pill dealer in Chambersburg," Karam said.

Darby's co-conspirator, Malik Bonds, was also convicted of drug trafficking in January. Connor sentenced him to 156 months in prison in June.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry praised those who helped bring Darby and his accomplice to justice.

"This career drug trafficker who prioritized profits over people's safety will never have another opportunity to inflict harm," Henry said. "I am thankful for the collaboration with our federal law enforcement partners, which led to a life sentence for someone who ignored numerous prior opportunities to reform his conduct."
