HARRISBURG, Pa. — Monday was a somber day in Harrisburg, as three children continue to recover from being shot Sunday afternoon.
“I have kids, so it hit me real hard," said Robert Dillard, who lives in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred. "I got real emotional about it and I still feel shaken."
The shooting happened near 18th and Regina Streets around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The victims were a 13-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old girl.
Police believe the 13-year-old was with someone who may have been the intended target.
The other two kids just got caught in the crossfire.
“It’s unfortunate that people will glorify gangs and what have you and stand on the corner and just recklessly and haphazardly shoot into a crowd of kids," said Commissioner Thomas Carter of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police.
All three children were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay.
Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams responded to the violence Monday morning.
“Now we’re talking about children who were on the streets playing," said Mayor Williams. "And I want to say today we are not going to tolerate this.”
The mayor continued, "If you’re not angry, you should be angry. We have babies on the street. The community needs to come together and help the Harrisburg police department.”
Investigators believe there were two shooters, neither of whom had been arrested as of Monday afternoon.
“That’s scary, too," said Dillard. "As a community we [have to] do better.”
“We’re going to find out who you are and we’re going to bring the noise and you’re going to be apprehended for [the crime], said Commissioner Carter.
