Update: Coroner called after overnight shooting in Carlisle

One person died and another was taken to the hospital where his current condition is unknown.

CARLISLE, Cumberland County — Update (9:55 a.m.): Police say one man died and another was injured in a shooting that involved a vehicle crash in Carlisle.

Shortly after midnight, Carlisle Police heard multiple shots fired in the area of Memorial Park. When officers arrived on the scene they found a crash near the intersection of North West Street and West Penn Street.

Police say it was immediately clear that the driver of the vehicle, Paul Laney, had significant injuries due to gunshot wounds.

Despite lifesaving efforts by officers, and later by EMS, Laney succumbed to his injuries and died, police say.

Police say a passenger with gunshot injuries fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and was taken to the hospital by friends.
