2 arrested for using counterfeit money at York County Sheetz

Jaliayh Portlock, 20, and Rashee Massey, 28, both from Charlotte, North Carolina, were arrested with $11,300 in counterfeit $100 dollar bills.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Two suspects from North Carolina were arrested after attempting to pass counterfeit money at a Pennsylvania Sheetz, according to the Northern York County Regional Police Department.

An officer was patrolling the Tru by Hilton Hotel located at 1520 Toronita St. in Manchester Township, York County around 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 when he noticed a Chevrolet Malibu with Ohio plates and four passengers park in the hotel's parking lot.

A woman exited the car and went to the Sheetz across the street at 215 Arsenal Rd. Officers noted that there were available parking spot in the Sheetz lot, but the Malibu parked in the hotel lot.

After the woman came back to the hotel parking lot, the Malibu left the hotel parking lot. The driver allegedly did not use his turn signal, prompting the NYCRPD officer to pull the car over. Police say they could smell burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver did not have identification but claimed his name was "Richard Greene,” according to police. The woman who had gone into the Sheetz allegedly identified herself as "Asia Johnson."

Officers say they saw a large amount of cash in the center console while "Greene" was searching for his identification.

While police had the Malibu pulled over, the officer who had been patrolling the hotel called the Sheetz across the street to ask if they had received any counterfeit bills. Police say they had received a report earlier in the day from the same Sheetz that it had received counterfeit money.

A Sheetz employee allegedly confirmed that they had received a counterfeit $100 bill and sent a photo of the suspect to the officer, who was able to identify the suspect as "Johnson."

Police seized and searched the vehicle, where they allegedly found $11,300 in counterfeit $100 bills, $1,478 in cash, various gift cards and marijuana.

"Greene" and "Johnson" were arrested at the scene and identified as Jaliayh Portlock, 20, and Rashee Massey, 28, both from Charlotte, North Carolina. They were charged with forgery and false identification to law enforcement. Portlock posted bail; Massey failed to post bail and was sent to York County Prison.
