Cumberland County man arrested, charged with attempted criminal homicide after hours-long standoff with police

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A Camp Hill man is facing multiple charges, including attempted criminal homicide, after an hours-long standoff with police. 

According to the East Pennsboro Township Police Department, on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Erford Road for a domestic disturbance. 

At the home, a victim suffering from a knife injury was identified and removed from the house. They were transported to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment. 

Meanwhile, Shawn Swingler, 50, allegedly barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out. According to police, Swingler was armed. 

Officers from the Cumberland County Special Response Team arrived at the scene to assist and Swingler was taken into custody several hours later.

He has been charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment, strangulation, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, intimidation of a witness or victim and theft.
