Harrisburg Police investigating shooting, 13-year-old dead

According to the Harrisburg Bureau of Police, a 13-year-old arrived at a local hospital after being shot just after midnight on August 11.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Police in Harrisburg are investigating a shooting that left a teenage victim dead on Sunday.

“At approximately midnight Saturday night, early Sunday morning, Harrisburg Police responded to the area of 19th and Derry for a report of shots fired,” said Lieutenant Kyle Gautsch.

At the scene, police discovered multiple people in the area and began to look for victims. A short time later, they were notified of a 13-year-old girl arriving at a local hospital seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, police stated. The victim was reportedly rushed into surgery but later died as a result of her injuries.

The Dauphin County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Na’Ryah Wright. It ruled the cause of her death a gunshot wound to the body and the manner homicide.

“It’s not the first time I’ve stood up in front of you guys and discussed a juvenile losing their life and it does rest a little bit heavier on you,” Gautsch said.

Gautsch did confirm the victim was from Steelton and believes she was in Harrisburg for an outdoor gathering.

“We believe that is what the congregation of individuals were there in reference to, both to attend to and leave the event, etc.,” Gautsch said

Students and parents of Steelton Highspire Jr. and High School received a message on Sunday about a student’s death.

Nobody has been charged in connection to the homicide at this time.

“We have spoken with a lot of people and there are more, we encourage anybody that has any information, that knows of anything or hears anything to please come forward,” Gautsch said.

A ballistics test is being done to determine where the gunfire came from at the time of the shooting.

An investigation was immediately initiated and is ongoing at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Harrisburg Police at 717-558-6900 or by submitting a tip on CRIMEWATCH.
