LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A man is in custody after allegedly attempting to kidnap several women in Lancaster County over the weekend, according to police.

Jared Sweigard, 42, of Enola, is accused of trying to break into a vehicle with several people sitting inside in the Marietta Sheetz parking lot. The victims called Susquehanna Regional Police to report a suspicious person around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 13. They allegedly told police they had locked the car doors after noticing Sweigard acting suspiciously near the vehicle.

When he was unable to get into the car, Sweigard allegedly moved on to a group of juveniles in the parking lot and told one girl she had "five seconds to get in the truck." The girl refused, and Sweigard continued on.

Police say he walked to a housing development next to the Sheetz and found a couple going up the stairs to an apartment. Sweigard allegedly pushed the man aside and attempted to grab the woman.

Lancaster City Police arrested Sweigard later that night when they recognized him driving around from descriptions of his car and clothing provided by the victims.

He was transferred back to the Susquehanna Regional Police Department and questioned at the station, where he allegedly admitted to his actions.

Sweigard was arraigned on Oct. 13 and denied bail because no conditions other than imprisonment can guarantee public safety, according to court documents. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 21.
