LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A Lancaster man was convicted Tuesday of sexually assaulting a child for nearly nine years and now awaits his sentence.
Miguel Morciglio-Figueroa, 41, abused his victim from 2009 through 2018. The victim, now 19, says he assaulted her when she was around 6, 10, 13 and 15 years old.
Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Baker started his closing argument with direct quotes from the victim describing the abuse that occurred.
“Does that sound like a tall tale to you?” Baker asked the jury. “Or does it sound like a nightmare?”
Baker argued that the victim was incredibly strong for testifying and if the jury believed her, the defendant was guilty of all the crimes.
The jury convicted Morciglio-Figueroa on all charges, including of rape of a child, aggravated indecent assault, statutory sexual assault (11 years older), unlawful sexual contact with a child, corruption of minors, rape – forcible compulsion, sexual assault and indecent assault of a person less than 13 after deliberating for about two hours.
“It is too late to get her innocence back,” Baker said in concluding his closing argument. “It is too late to get her childhood back. But it’s not too late to give her dignity back. I believe you’ll make the just choice.”
