Lancaster man allegedly broke into 2 homes, attempted to rape woman

LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster man is facing charges following two break-ins in which he attempted to rape a woman and stole a tablet.

Mohamed Camara, 32, is accused of breaking into a home in the 400 block of Fremont Street and another in the 500 block of Manor Street in Lancaster in the early morning of Nov. 16.

The Lancaster City Bureau of Police says officers responded to the Fremont Street incident at approximately 6:22 a.m. The victim allegedly told police that she had fallen back asleep after her husband left for work and woke up to an unknown man attempting to sexually assault her. The victim fought the suspect off, and he ran, leaving behind a pair of Nike sandals and a red lighter. Police are currently processing these items for DNA evidence.

According to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, Camara also stole a tablet from the Manor Street home later that same morning. Police responded to that incident just before 11 a.m.

Camara allegedly confirmed his identity to police when shown still images of himself from Lancaster Safety Coalition cameras that captured him during the incidents at both Fremont and Manor Street residences.

Police charged Camara with burglary – person present, attempted rape, aggravated indecent assault without consent, aggravated indecent assault – person unconscious, indecent assault without consent and indecent assault – person unconscious. Officers say he also violated his parole.

Camara waived his preliminary hearing. He is next scheduled for a formal arraignment on Dec. 21, according to court documents. He is being held in Lancaster County Prison, unable to post bail.
