YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A York County man is facing charges after educators discovered a letter that fell from a child's backpack on Sept. 15 detailing inappropriate contact with him.
According to a criminal complaint, staff at Northeastern Middle School contacted police after finding a letter on the ground that discussed acts such as kissing on the lips, cuddling and doing "girlfriend stuff" with a man later identified as David Yeager Jr., 44, of Lewisberry.
Educators reviewed surveillance footage to determine that the letter fell from a 13-year-old's backpack in the hallway, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The child's mother was contacted and gave permission to search the victim's cell phone. Police also seized Yeager's phone and found conversations between the two with some concerning messages, such as referencing promises and an incident between the two when they were on the way to the victim's house.
At a child forensic interview on Sept. 26, the victim allegedly told police that Yeager was taking her home on Sept. 14 when he began asking the girl if he could touch her. She said no several times and then stopped responding to his advances, according to a criminal complaint.
The victim allegedly told police that Yeager reached over and touched her genitals over her clothing after she stopped responding. She indicated that she was not okay with the contact and did not want it to happen.
According to a criminal complaint, when police interviewed Yeager on Oct. 4, he claimed he was trying to cheer the victim up by tickling her thigh just above her knee. Yeager says this caused the victim to squirm and he might have inadvertently touched her genitals.
Yeager is charged with unlawful contact with minor - sexual offenses, corruption of minors - defendant age 18 or above, indecent assault-without consent of other and indecent assault person less 16 years age. Court documents show Yeager is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
