12-year-old charged with arson in Middletown fire that displaced 24 people

The fire, which displaced 13 adults, 11 kids, and multiple pets, was allegedly started by a 12-year-old who lit combustible materials inside the apartment building.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — The Middletown Borough Police Department announced an arrest from Thursday night's fire that displaced 13 adults, 11 kids, and multiple pets.

According to Dauphin County 911 dispatch, the fire broke out in the evening of Aug. 11 at the Genesis Court Apartments in Middletown.

An investigation into the fire revealed that it had been caused by an open flame that was used to light combustible materials. It was determined that a 12-year-old boy allegedly lit the material, causing the apartment fire. 

He has been charged with arson, recklessly endangering another person, and reckless burning. 

The boy is currently at Dauphin County Juvenile Probation Services.

No injuries were reported from the fire. 

The Red Cross says that it is providing assistance and resources to those that were displaced.
