Capitol Police announced the arrest of a man they said terrorized a group following a peaceful demonstration for Palestine on Friday evening.

Police said eyewitness testimony and video footage of the attack led them to their arrest later that day.

The suspect was identified as Richard Kevin Blandy of South Lebanon Township.

Blandy, 56, was arrested and charged on Friday night, merely an hour after he sped away from the steps of the Capitol after he attacked a group gathered there.

According to police, Blandy drove up to a group of organizers on 3rd Street, shortly after the end of a rally for peace in Palestine, yelled racial slurs and pointed a gun at them.

He sped away as people yelled, "he has a gun!" and called for Capitol Police.

Officers ran after Blandy, but he was able to get away while breaking several traffic laws.

Later, during his arrest, police discovered the gun used in the attack.

“Using information provided by eyewitnesses and a video of the crime, we were able to get the investigation immediately underway and have the suspect in custody within an hour of the crime taking place,” Capitol Police Superintendent Joe Jacob stated. “I also want to give special thanks to the Pennsylvania State Police and South Lebanon Township Police Department for working with us to take the suspect into custody without incident.”

Blandy posted bail and is awaiting his preliminary hearing scheduled for the end of the month.
