Pennsylvania ranks as sixth-highest state for most recorded serial killers

Based on a map created by Newsweek, Pa. is within the Top 10 states in the U.S. for the most recorded serial killers.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Pennsylvania has taken sixth in the U.S. for the most recorded serial killers to come out of its state, according to Newsweek.

Based on a map generated by Newsweek, Pa. has five recorded serial killers.

Newsweek, a global media organization, created an interactive map of the U.S. The states are colored with different variations of red, and the darker the state is, the more serial killers originated from that state.

Out of the five, Gary Heidnik, or the "House of Horrors" killer is one recorded serial killer from Pa. who used electrical shock on his victims in 1986 and 1987, among other heinous acts. In 1999, Heidnik became the last person to be executed in the Commonwealth.

Mark Spotz, Harry Longabaugh, Charles Roberts IV and Howard Miguel Roberts are all among the list as well.

As for the other 50 states, New York takes the top of the list with 18 serial killers followed by California at 15 and Texas with eight.

The map excludes Nevada, Wyoming and Nebraska because of lack of data.
