York man sentenced to 10 years in prison for role in cocaine trafficking conspiracy

YORK, Pa. — A York man will serve 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug smuggling charges, U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam announced Friday.

Kevin Marrero-Morales, 29, admitted in court to participating in a conspiracy to smuggle several kilograms of cocaine from Puerto Rico to York. He was indicted by a federal grand jury and pleaded guilty to several charges stemming from the indictment, Karam said.

One shipment contained at least 30 kilograms of cocaine, according to Karam.

Marrero-Morales's 10-year prison term is the mandatory minimum, Karam said.

Also charged in the case are:

  • Juan Escalera-Carasquillo, 25
  • Daniel Velez-Olivero, 37
  • Gerald Calcano, 31
  • Takquasha Beatty, 29
  • Reynaldo Vargas Seda, 23
  • Jorge Angel Rivera-Ortiz, 24

According to Karam, the conspirators stored drugs and weapons in various locations around York. Escalera-Carasquillo, Beatty and Sera are also charged with possessing a Glock 9 handgun, a Smith and Wesson .380 handgun and a Del-Tron AR-15 rifle in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Pennsylvania State Police, the York County Drug Task Force and York City Police.
