Sheriff's Department warns of phone scam targeting Dauphin County residents

The Dauphin County Sheriff's Department reminds residents that it will not ask anyone to pay warrants over the phone.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. —

The Dauphin County Sheriff's Department is warning the public of a circulating phone scam.

The department reminds residents that it will not ask anyone to make payments on warrants over the phone. It will also not ask for payments to be made in the form of CoinStar, bitcoin or gift cards.

"If you get a phone call from someone saying they are with the Sheriff's Department, that you have warrants and that you are to pay money, this is a scam," Dauphin County Crime Stoppers said.

If you do get one of these calls and are concerned about your warrant status, the Sheriff's Department advises to call it at 717-780-6590 or your local police department.
