PEQUEA, Pa. — A man is in police custody after driving at officers during a chase in Lancaster County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Troopers say they received several calls from Pequea Township residents around 5:20 p.m. on March 28 concerned about a vehicle backing up in the oncoming lane of travel on West Penn Grant Road. When township police responded to the scene, the vehicle allegedly took off south on Church Road.
The Pequea Township Police Department requested assistance from State Police, who says the two agencies tried to stop the Ford F-150 with spike strips several times. Keanu Callirgos, 28, of Pequea, who was identified as the driver, allegedly drove around the strips and in one instance straight at law enforcement officers, almost hitting them.
The pursuit ended when a trooper used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, which caused it to hit an embankment and roll over. Police say Callirgos was taken into custody without incident and without any observable injuries.
Callirgos was taken to a local hospital for a medical and mental evaluation. He was charged with eight counts of aggravated assault.
