A Dover man pleaded no contest to his role in the death of his girlfriend's baby in January 2022, according to Kyle King with the York County District Attorney's Office.
Robert Eugene McCachren, 30, pleaded no contest because he claims he does not remember the night due to being high on drugs, officials said. He now faces around one to two years of prison and another two years of probation. He is not eligible for credit of time served.
According to police, troopers were called to a residence on the 100 block of Bentz Mill Road at 5:09 a.m. on Jan. 27, 2022, for the report of a baby that was not breathing.
Responding troopers and EMS found the baby in a pop-up trailer located behind the residence. The trailer had limited heat provided by a propane tank, and the living conditions inside were described as "deplorable," with drug paraphernalia visible to investigators, police say.
An autopsy of the baby determined she died of hypothermia and methamphetamine toxicity, according to police.
The baby's mother, Ashley Decker, was also charged with murder of the third degree, involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of children - parent/guardian/other commits offense. She is scheduled for a status hearing on Dec. 19, court documents show.
