Lancaster man accused of drunken vandallism crime spree

LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster man was arrested Thursday morning after police say he went on an overnight spree of vandalism and property damage while drunk.

Rolando Chinea-Rivera, 32, is accused of damaging numerous properties in downtown Lancaster, the city's Bureau of Police reported

Court documents show that he now faces an array of charges, including one count of aggravated assault, one count of flight to avoid apprehension trial or punishment, one count of simple assault,  one count of public drunkenness, one count of criminal mischief, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of evading arrest.

Investigators reviewed video surveillance footage from multiple surveillance cameras that determined Chinea-Rivera was dropped off on the 100 block of East King Street at about 5:10 a.m.

According to police, he then went on the following route: south on Queen Street to Vine Street, then back north on Queen Street to Orange Street, east on Orange Street to Christian Street, north on Christian Street to Chestnut Street, west on Chestnut Street to Queen Street, and finally, north on Queen Street until reaching the 500 block, where he was apprehended by police.

During this spree, police claim that Chinea-Rivera:

  • damaged four city-owned metal decorative trash cans (located on the 1st block of S. Queen St., 1st block of N. Queen St., 200 block of N. Queen St. and 400 block of N. Queen St.) 
  • damaged four privately owned large flower pots (located throughout 314-343 N. Queen St.) 
  • damaged one privately owned flowerpot (located at 413 ½ N. Queen St.) 
  • damaged a very large privately owned flowerpot (located at 22 E. Orange St.) 
  • flipped a dumpster (located on the 100 block of N. Christian St.)
  • flipped a bike rack (located on the 100 block of N. Christian St.)
  • kicked an occupied vehicle (located on the 500 block of N. Queen St.)
