CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Chambersburg Police have announced a recent scam where an officer from the department is impersonated.

Authorities claimed that unknown scammers contacted Chambersburg citizens while posing as the Chambersburg Police Department's Sgt. Fegan.

When acting as Fegan, the scammers tried to obtain citizens' financial information.

The Chambersburg Police Department assured citizens that neither Sgt. Fegan, nor anyone else working for the department would ever contact someone requesting financial information, emphasizing that the courts handle all financial transactions related to legal issues.

The department warned citizens of the tactics used by such scammers, including keeping people on the phone so they cannot contact the police, or asking for Bitcoin or gift cards as payment.

Chambersburg Police encourage citizens who receive these calls to not give any of the requested information and to immediately contact police.
