HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Maryland man was sentenced to 14 years in jail for robbing five banks across central Pennsylvania.
The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that James Henderson Bryant III, 46, from Westminster, was sentenced to 14 years in jail for bank robberies. He was also ordered to serve five years on supervised release after the conclusion of the prison sentence and ordered to pay BB&T and Citizens Bank restitution of more than $26,000.
According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, in July of 2021, a little more than two months after being released from nearly 13 years in state prison, Bryant stole more than $3,000 from a BB&T Bank branch in Hanover using a demand note.
In Aug. 2021, Bryant robbed two different BB&T Bank branches in Gettysburg and Spring Grove, threatening tellers that he had a firearm before fleeing with cash.
In Sept. 2021, Bryant robbed a Citizens Bank branch in Dillsburg, displaying what looked like a handgun at three tellers before stealing more than $6,200.
Bryant was arrested on Oct. 5, 2021, minutes after robbing a Citizens Bank branch in Carlisle, while displaying what appeared to be a firearm.
Days after his arrest, Bryant assaulted a corrections officer while being transported to a local hospital for medical care. Charges remain pending in that case.
According to court records, Bryant was charged federally with bank robbery in Dec. 2021 and pleaded guilty in January 2023.
