CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A man was sentenced in Cumberland County court on Monday for sexually abusing his stepdaughter while her mother was "severely ill" with terminal cancer, according to the County's District Attorney's Office.

Joseph Tondo, 58, of Rosharon, Texas, began abusing the girl when she was 14-years-old. The victim testified that there were different facets to the abuse, like Tondo requiring her to perform sex acts in order to earn various privileges.

He was convicted of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a child less than 16 years of age, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, indecent exposure and unlawful contact with a minor at a February trial.

Tondo also was also accused of sexually abusing three of his stepdaughter's friends and cousins when they were teenagers, and he pleaded no contest to corruption of minors on a second docket, the DA's Office said.

He was sentenced to 11 - 22 years in jail plus a decade of probation. A judge found Tondo also met the criteria to be classified as a sexually violent predator.
