Police investigating shooting in Lancaster

The Lancaster City Bureau of Police is investigating a shooting in the city that sent one person to the hospital.

LANCASTER, Pa. — The Lancaster City Bureau of Police is investigating a Thursday night shooting in the city.

The incident occurred around 9:35 p.m. on June 27 in the 600 block of Ocean Avenue, according to police.

Officers say they found one injured woman who was taken to get medical treatment upon their arrival to the scene. It was determined at the hospital that the victim had been shot in her stomach, pelvis and arm, according to a criminal complaint.

The victim allegedly told police at the scene that she had been shot by Dervin Mateo-Berrios, 51, after an argument. Mateo-Berrios was not at the scene, but officers allegedly found a trail of bloody footprints leaving the home. The gate in the backyard was also ajar, according to a criminal complaint.

Mateo-Berrios was arrested later that same night. Officers located him hiding behind a trash can on Third Street in Lancaster around 10:20 p.m., according to an affidavit of probable cause. Police say the shoes he was wearing at the time of his arrest appeared to be bloodied.

Mateo-Berrios is charged with criminal homicide (attempt) and two counts of aggravated assault.

The Bureau believes that there is no danger to the public.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact the LCBP at 717-735-3300 or submit a tip online. People with information may choose to remain anonymous.
