JUNIATA COUNTY, Pa. — A Pennsylvania State Police Trooper was shot and killed and another was injured by an armed person in Juniata County on Saturday.
According to the State Police, a State Trooper encountered an armed person around 12:45 p.m. on June 17 in the vicinity of the State Police Lewistown barracks in Mifflintown.
The suspect shot and injured the Trooper, and they were taken to an area hospital. According to authorities, that Trooper is identified as James Wagner, and he is listed in critical condition and being treated for his injuries at the hospital.
Authorities say after a search, they located the shooter in the area of Swamp Road and Baumgardner Drive in Walker Township around 3:00 p.m.
At that time, police say they exchanged gunfire with the suspect, resulting in a second State Trooper being shot. During this shooting, both the suspect and State Trooper were shot and killed.
The State Police identified the fallen trooper as Jacques Rogeau Jr.
Officials say that both Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris have responded to the hospital where the wounded trooper was taken.
