U.S. Marshals partner with Dauphin County police to arrest non-compliant Megan's Law offenders

HARRISBURG, Pa. — U.S. Marshals partnered with Dauphin County agencies to arrest non-compliant sex offenders in October. 

In Oct. 2024, the United States Marshals Service executed Operation Trick or Treat 2; The Nationwide Initiative to Protect Communities and Children during Halloween. 

On Thursday, Oct. 31, U.S. Marshal William Pugh announced the results of the operation for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. The United States Marshals Service (USMS) for the Middle District of Pennsylvania was one of the 28 districts across the country to host the operation. 

The USMS partnered with the Harrisburg Bureau of Police and the Lycoming County Sheriff's Office for Operation Trick or Treat 2 to conduct Megan's Law Compliance Checks and arrest non-compliant and fugitive offenders. 

In total, the Harrisburg Bureau of Police and the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office conducted 377 Compliance Checks in their respective jurisdictions. 

Of those, 358 individuals were found to be compliant, and 19 individuals were determined to be non-compliant. In conjunction with the USMS Fugitive Task Force, a total of nine people were arrested for failure to register/comply as sex offenders, with additional investigations ongoing. 

Additionally, five warrants were served for parole/probation violations with underlying sex offense convictions. An additional five arrest warrants were served for charges of sexual assault, enticement of minors, and similar sex offenses. 

One individual was arrested on a federal arrest warrant for failing to register as a sex offender and for narcotics and firearms violations. 

The USMS Middle District of Pennsylvania thanked the Harrisburg Bureau of Police and Lycoming County Sheriff's Office for their dedication and hard work in making the streets safer this Halloween season.
