Police arrest two people accused of sexually abusing child between 2011-2013

John Dehart, 56, was arrested in Philadelphia last month, authorities said. A second suspect in the case, Sarah Miller, 34, is now also in custody, police said.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Update, May 10 (10 a.m.): Sarah Miller was taken into custody in Luzerne County on Wednesday, prosecutors said. 

She was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge John Bender, who set bail at $1 million, on May Thursday. Miller remains in Lancaster County Prison after failing to post bail.

Police in Lancaster County have arrested one suspect and are searching for another in a case of alleged sex crimes against a minor between 2011 and 2013, the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

John Dehart, 56, of Camano Island, WA, was arrested in Philadelphia on April 18 and extradited to Lancaster County on charges of rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, incest, indecent assault, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children, and terroristic threats, prosecutors said.

A second suspect, Sarah Miller, 34, of Nanticoke, Luzerne County, is still at large, according to police. Miller, who may be going by the alias Sara Souder, is also charged with rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, incest, indecent assault, corruption of minors, and endangering the welfare of children, according to prosecutors.

East Hempfield Township Police began investigating the suspects on December 1, 2023, when they were notified by Manor Township Police about alleged sexual abuse by Dehart and Miller against a juvenile victim. The allegations were brought by a witness in a separate investigation, authorities said.

The alleged abuse conducted by Dehart and Miller occurred in East Hempfield Township, when the victim was between the ages of 4 and 6, police said.
