YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A 25-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in jail for the 2019 shooting death of his father.

Wyatt Dettinger, from Wellsville, pled guilty to first-degree murder for the death of Duane Dettinger. According to online court documents, he was sentenced on Tuesday, Feb. 6 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

In 2019, Wyatt fired two shots from a .243 caliber long rifle, striking his father. He then fled the scene in a red Mazda sedan with a 17-year-old.

Carroll Township Police located the Mazda sedan shortly after the incident and initiated a traffic stop. Wyatt attempted to flee the scene on foot but was caught by police. He was found with a long rifle in his possession, according to police.

Wyatt told police that he was in a "fit of rage" in his bedroom when Duane came inside and told him to stop. When Duane left the room, Wyatt reportedly shot his rifle through the wall, striking his father. He then entered the hallway and reportedly shot his father again as he was lying on the floor.
