Police in York County searching for man who barricaded himself with gun, fled the scene

The Newberry Township Police Department is searching for Nicholas Buchanan, 40, who fled from police after barricading himself inside a room with a gun.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Police in York County are searching for a man who reportedly fled from officers after barricading himself in a room with a gun.

According to the Newberry Township Police Department, officers were called the a residence in the 2300 block of Old Trail Road at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday to investigate a reported trespassing.

At the scene, police allegedly learned that Nicholas Buchanan, 40, who is wanted for unrelated charges, was inside the residence. While officers were trying to locate Buchanan due to his outstanding warrant, Buchanan indicated he had a gun and tried to barricade himself in a room.

Police stated that while other officers were in the process of trying to contain Buchanan, he reportedly escaped the residence and fled from them. 

This was an isolated incident and at no time was there any threat directed to the public, police confirmed. Traffic on Old Trail Road was diverted for safety and operational purposes on Saturday during the incident.

Newberry Police were assisted by Fairview Township Police, Pennsylvania State Police, the York County Sheriff's Office and the Newberry Township Fire Department.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Nicholas Buchanan is asked to contact the police by calling 911.
