A charter school in Harrisburg will not be reopening for the 2024-25 school year.
Premier Arts and Charter School (PASCS) in Harrisburg announced on its website that on Thursday, the Board of Directors voted to cease its opposition to the Resolution of Non-Renewal issued by the Harrisburg School District.
As a result of this, PASCS will immediately begin the process of dissolution called the 'wind down' process, and will not reopen.
According to the open letter, the Board of Directors determined that it would be in the best interest of families enrolled in the school to cease their opposition and assist them in finding a new school for the upcoming school year.
Pennsylvania Charter School Law requires the school to begin the "wind down" process, which includes the following steps:
- Establishment of a Transition Team: The Transition Team will consist of one representative from the school's administration, teaching faculty and support staff.
- Establishment of a Student Transition Team: The Student Transition Team will assist students and their families in identifying a school for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Establishment of a Staff Transition Team: The Staff Transition Team will assist staff members with the transition of finding employment for the 2024-2025 school year. Additionally, this team will work collaboratively with the administration to support the social-emotional health and wellness of the staff.
School officials stated that in addition to the creation of the above teams, the school's administration will work collaboratively with internal and external resources to support the students' mental health and wellness.
The summer enrichment program and ESY will continue as scheduled, and the school's office hours will remain the same for the time being. Anyone with additional questions or concerns is asked to contact PASCS.
