HARRISBURG, Pa. — Community Health Workers (CHWs) from across Pennsylvania met at the State Capitol in Harrisburg on Tuesday for their first-ever Rally Day.
On Tuesday, they wanted to speak to lawmakers about their profession's impact on the community and the importance of financially sustaining their positions.
CHWs connect the community to their local health systems and the state Department of Health. They provide screening and health education, informal counseling, outreach and social support.
Dr. Debra Bogen, Acting Secretary of Health of Pennsylvania, and chairman Stephen Kinsey, of the House Human Services Committee, spoke at the rally, along with six CHWs who work in Pennsylvania.
The rally was held at 11:30 a.m. on the State Capitol steps.
