The data was collected from Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Los Angeles County (California), Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York City (New York), North Carolina, Seattle/King County (Washington), and Utah.

As of Friday in Pennsylvania, the state reported 5,005 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 1,338,313.

The state reported 2,118 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 with 523 patients in intensive care. More data is available here.

A second study by the CDC also studied individual vaccine effectiveness against the Delta variant between June-August 2021.

Overall, it found vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 hospitalization was 86%. It states vaccine effectiveness was "significantly lower among adults aged ≥75 years (76%) than among those aged 18–74 years (89%)."

It adds, across all ages, vaccine effectiveness was "significantly higher among Moderna vaccine recipients (95%) than among Pfizer-BioNTech (80%) or Janssen (60%) vaccine recipients."

The study encompasses data from 32,867 medical encounters from 187 hospitals and 221 emergency departments and urgent care clinics across nine states during June–August 2021.

The study states: "These findings reaffirm the high protection of COVID-19 vaccines against moderate and severe COVID-19 resulting in ED, UC, and hospital visits and underscore the importance of full COVID-19 vaccination and continued benefits of COVID-19 vaccination during Delta variant predominance."

Statewide percent positivity for the week of Aug. 27 – Sept. 2 stood at 8.2%.

As of 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, there were 37 new deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, reported for a total of 28,535 deaths attributed to COVID-19. County-specific information and a statewide map are available on the COVID-19 Data Dashboard.

For the 2021-2022 school year, the Department of Health is providing weekly updated case counts for two age groups: 0-4 capturing child care and early learning age children and 5-18 capturing kindergarten through high school age children. Case counts will be updated on Thursday afternoon for the previous week and cumulative since Aug. 16, 2021, by county of residence. The case counts presented are total case counts in these age groups and are not necessarily cases exposed in school, early learning or child care settings. The location of exposure cannot be determined but may have occurred in a variety of settings including the community, household/family, or the school setting.

A comparison of cases among school-aged children between 5-18 for the first week in September 2021 and 2020 shows the number of cases in the age group this year is nearly 10 times greater the same timeframe in 2020. Between Sept. 4 and Sept. 10, 2020, there were a total of 574 COVID-19 cases in the age group compared to Sept. 2 and Sept. 8, 2021, when there were 5,371 cases in the same age group.

The latest data is available in the “Updated Case and Death Information” section on the website.
