YORK, Pa. —

Pulling all-nighters affects physical and mental health

If you pull an all-nighter, no matter why, it could have serious effects on your health in the short and long term.

A new study shows your immune system can weaken because of it, making you more susceptible to illness. It can lead to mood changes, mental health issues and an increased risk of disease. It also can impair concentration and memory.

Experts say to reset your system after an all-nighter. Try to get back on your sleep schedule as soon as possible. Also limit your caffeine intake before bedtime, spend time outside during the day and stick to a regular sleep schedule.

Eating lunch at your desk at work has risks

Taking a lunch break away from your desk may be more important than you think.

Experts say there are risks to working through your lunch hour. A 2023 survey asked 5,000 workers across the nation; almost half said they skipped their lunch break at least once a week. However, that same amount of people said they are less burned out when they use their break time.

The study also showed eating at your desk can cause decreased nutrient absorption, lower energy and higher chances of mindless eating.

CDC hopes to lift COVID-19 isolation guidelines in April

Almost four years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may drop the advice telling people to stay home for five days after testing positive for the virus.

The agency hopes to loosen its coronavirus isolation guidelines in April, letting people be the ones to determine when they can head back into the world. The new proposed guidelines state people can leave home if they have been fever-free without the help of medication for at least 24 hours and as long as their symptoms are either mild or improved.

The White House has not signed off yet on this change, and the CDC does plan to announce it in April to get public comment.
