ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the U.S. is projected to experience a shortage of registered nurses (RNs) that is expected to intensify as baby boomers age and the need for health care grows.
Masonic Village at Elizabethtown is combatting that shortage by hosting a nursing service hiring event today.
“The last two years at Masonic Village have been a challenge and for the industry as a whole; we’ve had such dedicated staff,” said Matt Mayo, assistant executive director.
Masonic Village employs 1,651 individuals and has approximately 2,785 people who live at the retirement home. Services and amenities on the property include home care, home health, hospice, pharmacy and more.
“We opened up an end-of-life—formally known as a hospice unit—is taking care of fewer residents; however, is making sure we’re meeting the needs of our patients in our community and also our campus, so I think our folks have appreciated the fact that we’ve opened these units,” said Mayo.
The hiring event will offer on-the-spot interviews with the potential for an immediate offer. Officials say the shifts range from full-time to part-time, to even float pool/PRN nurses. The positions Masonic Village is looking to fill are:
- Certified nursing assistant (CNA)
- Licensed practical nurse (LPN)
- Graduate practical nurse (GPN)
- RN/RN supervisor
- New graduates
“If they were to be hired here, medical and dental benefits start on day one—which is unique compared to most of our healthcare setting, so we’re fortunate to be able to offer that to them,” said Mayo.
The event will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 24, but officials say they will continue to take applications and interviews after today's hiring event. For more information on Masonic Village Elizabethtown, click here.
