YORK COUNTY, Pa. — In this week’s FOX43 FitMinute with the JCC we are building off of last week's core movement with the TRX straps.
“We are going to take something that we started on the floor last week and we are getting it up into the air this week to make it a little harder," said Susannah Gillespie, personal trainer with the York JCC.
Reminders, if you need assistance getting into the TRX straps, be sure to ask a friend or trainer to help and when you preform the moves, try to take it slowly to really make sure you're working those core muscles.
This week "we are going to add another element that’s going to make it a little more challenging, but I am sure that you can do it! We are going to put our hands on the ground and feet into what we call the stirrups or handlebars. Hands are going to be directly below our shoulders, and we are going to pop up holding a nice plank and now pull the knees in under the chest and then slide them back out. Another option is you can bring it out to the side getting the obliques,” Gillespie said.
These core exercises can be added on to any workout, whether it's after a big cardio set, or a heavy lifting set. With that being said repetitions of 10 to 12 should be good, or if you are timing the movement try it for 30 seconds then take a break!
There are several variations on this move, including mountain climbers, or moving your legs laterally out to the side. If you'd like to expand, click here to contact the JCC.
Try breaking any of the variations to single leg options, or hold that original plank if you need a rest.
You just got better!
