YORK, Pa. —
Distracted walking just as dangerous as driving
A new study finds distracted walking can be equally as concerning as distracted driving.
Researchers at the University of British Columbia says people using a phone to talk, text or listen to music were found to be less likely to take defensive action when in danger compared to those who stay alert to their surroundings.
Distracted walkers moved slower and closer to vehicles compared to their non-distracted counterparts. They were also less likely to yield to oncoming traffic or change their direction even when dangerously close to vehicles.
Study shows many teens are burned out
A new study is revealing just how burned out and anxious teens are today.
Researchers surveyed more than 1,500 teenagers and found 81% said they felt negative pressure in at least one area of their lives. And 56% said they feel pressure over creating a game plan for their future, like choosing a college and a career.
Link between alcohol and heart problems
A boozy night out could cost more than a bad hangover.
New research shows heavy drinking also impacts heart health. A recent study published in the European Health Journal found over 5% of otherwise healthy participants developed a significant irregular heartbeat after high levels of intoxication.
Scientists say more research is needed to determine the longer-term effects of alcohol on the heart.
