YORK, Pa. —

Breast cancer vaccine in trials

A breast cancer vaccine in early clinical trials at the Cleveland Clinic could mean big changes for woman at risk of getting the disease.

The biotech company Anixa Biosciences says it's developing a breast cancer vaccine that is in the early stages of the process. Their goal was to determine proper dosage; however, early data also showed promising results on preventing recurrence of cancer.

Poor sleep in midlife years could mean higher dementia risk

A new study in the Journal Neurology suggests if you have sleep problems when you're in middle age, it could lead to poor memory later in life.

Researchers looked at almost 600 people's brain scans and found those who reported poor sleep characteristics at 40 showed an advanced brain age in MRIs taken 15 years later. Poor sleep characteristics include trouble falling or staying asleep.

Doctors say advanced brain aging is associated with cognitive decline and Alzheimer's-related patterns.

How long does Halloween candy last?

Now that Halloween has come and gone, it's time to enjoy those treats!

Food safety educators say the good news is that most chocolates, hard candies and even gummies will last about a year. Of course, it's always a good idea to check the "best by" dates and go with that, if the candies have them.

If chocolate goes chalky or white, that means the ingredients are separating, but it's still safe to eat. Chocolates with nuts, however, will go bad.

It's best to store candies in a cool location, with air-tight containers.
