YORK, Pa. — There was a special birthday party at UPMC Magee-Womens at UPMC Memorial Hospital.
Staff members celebrated the fifth birthday of the hospital's new campus on Innovation Drive in York County. And what better way to do so, than giving back to the people who keep them busy.
"I delivered all of my kids with UPMC, and I have six children; he's the sixth one," said mom Alyssa Walker.
Her son Armon was one of many babies who received the hospital's gift: a handmade newborn hat. It's a gesture organizers say brought smiles to both parents and staff.
"Our birthday hats came from volunteers, so they graciously made the hats and donated them to us to get to our families," said Kelly Kilcoyne with UPMC.
The anniversary comes on the heels of the hospital being recognized by US News and World Report as a 2023-24 High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care--one of the most prestigious awards a hospital can earn.
As for Walker, she says her pregnancy couldn't have gone any smoother.
"All of the doctors, the nurses, they were really awesome," Walker said. "I don't know how to put it besides that, they're really great."
