YORK COUNTY, Pa. — In this week’s FOX43 FitMinute with the York JCC we're looking at the many uses of the kettlebell!
Jen Winter, a fitness director at the JCC, showed us the strength builder and all the moves you can do with it.
The kettlebell is great because it can be used to work the entire body. “You can use for balance, mobility exercises, strength training or even HIIT training,” Winter explained.
Balance exercises include, but are not limited to, the Romanian deadlift and the single-leg Romanian deadlift.
“Gymgoers can also do kettlebell swings, which are a full body workout incorporating the arms and squats in the legs. You can do lunges with the kettlebells as well, holding them right here at chest height. As well as bicep curls,” Winter said.
When beginning to use the kettlebell start on the lighter side. Winter says that starting with 15 pounds is a great place for each movement, but if you are ready to add weight or subtract, go for it!
A good rule of thumb is to base the weight off of trying to complete eight to 10 reps for three sets total.
“With the kettlebell the possibilities are endless, you can incorporate core exercises as well, so it is truly a full body from balance, mobility, strength training, HIIT Training and core," Winter said.
You just got better!
