CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — WellSpan Health in partnership with Emerus, the nation's leading developer of small-format hospitals, held a groundbreaking event Thursday morning for their new hospital and medical campus in the Carlisle area.
The new campus will be located off I-81 at the corner of Sprint Drive and Walnut Bottom Road in South Middleton Township.
The construction of these facilities come after an analysis shows the population in central and western parts of Cumberland County will exceed the current number of providers and physicians in the area within the next five years.
“WellSpan is stepping up to address this forecasted provider and physician deficit and we are committed to being a trusted partner when it comes to new and improved healthcare options in your backyard,” said Dr. Tim Switaj, vice president and regional chief medical officer, WellSpan Health.
The new campus will include a hospital, surgery center and medical officer building housing primary and specialty care practices.
Vic Schmerbeck, CEO of Emerus, is proud to partner with WellSpan. "We’re excited to help bring sustainable, compassionate, high-quality health care that will meet the needs of Pennsylvanians, now, and in the future,” Schmerbeck said.
The new hospital is expected to open in late 205 and will operate 24/7, 365 days a year.
