Happy birthday York County! 275th anniversary celebrations kick off milestone year

York County held a historical retrospective on Sunday at the Appell Center.

YORK, Pa. — York County kicked off its 275th anniversary celebration on Sunday with events centered around the county's long history.

The County held a discussion at the Appell Center centered around York County's 275-year history and its role in events such as the American Revolution and the Civil War. The York County Honors Choirs Alumni Choir performed at the event as well.

County officials say the County's journey through trying times over the years along with its economic and cultural diversity helped give it the spirit of community it has today.

“It's important to reflect back and look at our history and heritage, because that's what has made us where we're at today," said York County President Commissioner Julie Wheeler. “From our agriculture and industrial roots to where we are today with modern technology. I like to use the phrase from farmland to fast lane, from the birth of a nation to today, get it all in York County."

The County will hold a ceremony on Monday on the exact day of the County's founding to celebrate the anniversary further.
