Pennsylvania borough remembers tragedy of 9/11 with one of a kind display

The unique display features a piece of one of the Twin Towers and other informational pieces.

DICKSON CITY, Pa. — For almost a decade, this piece of twisted steel has sat in the lobby of the Dickson City Borough Building, serving as a reminder of the tragedy that was September 11th, 2001.

"And it took us about a year or so to get everything done, you know, to get it mounted and to get, uh, you know, like the granite work done around it," said Borough Manager Cesare Forconi.

He believes this piece of I-beam is the only item from the Twin Towers on display in the county.

Despite its rust and jagged edges, 23 years later, it serves as a tribute for those who remember the attacks and a learning tool for those born after 9/11.

"There's a lot of different components here," said Forconi. "So it actually has a number that lists where that was located and which one of the World Trade Centers. We have pictures that actually have a little tiny picture of every single person that perished in the World Trade Centers."

"You're bringing that home to here and seeing just a piece of steel and how it was twisted and turned," said Dickson City Police Chief William Bilinski. He helped transport the display from New York City back to the borough.

Walking past the beam and the other items of remembrance every day at work, he knows this piece of history delivers a message to all who take the time to see it.

"Just the reverence and the ability to remember what happened and never let it happen again," said Bilinski.

The 9/11 memorial display is open to the public during regular business hours Monday through Friday inside the Dickson City Borough Building.
