ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. — An Adams County man has been charged after allegedly soliciting illicit photos from a child.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on May 20, officers assumed an investigation into the unlawful contact with a minor that was reported to a Virginia sheriff's office.

In March 2020, the 10-year-old victim reportedly began speaking with Austin Smock, 30, from New Oxford. During the conversation, Smock allegedly discussed masturbation and other sexually related topics.

According to the affidavit, Smock was aware that the victim was under 18 years old.

During the conversations, Smock allegedly received explicit photos of the victim and told the victim that he wished to be more than "just friends" when they are older.

On July 26, Smock allegedly admitted to viewing sexually explicit photos from the victim, which he deleted. He also admitted that he deleted his Snapchat account and attempted to destroy evidence related to his account because he "did not want to get in trouble," according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Smock has been charged with child pornography, criminal use of a communication facility, unlawful contact with a minor, discussing explicit sex material with a minor and corruption of minors. His bail was set at $1 million and Smock was committed to Adams County Prison.

His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 7.
