ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. — A 19-year-old was arrested following a police chase and water rescue in Adams County.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer with the McSherrystown Borough Police Department was on patrol when he observed a black Jeep Liberty with an expired registration, inspection sticker and lights out.
The driver of the car- later identified as Lucas Sandoval, 19- was reportedly traveling at an excessive speed through an alley.
The officer activated his lights and siren, but Sandoval continued at a high rate of speed, prompting a chase.
According to the affidavit, the officer turned onto a traffic way and observed the normally locked gates hanging open with a "No Trespass" sign still standing behind the gates. There were reportedly fresh marks from high grass being pushed down by a vehicle that led into the body of water.
The officer reportedly observed the Jeep approximately 30 yards into the water. Sandoval and his 17-year-old passenger were rescued from the car without suffering any injuries.
Sandoval allegedly admitted to ingesting marijuana 4-6 hours before driving. According to the affidavit, there were enough clues to place him under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was transported to Gettysburg Hospital for a blood draw and then transported to Adams County Prison for arraignment.
Sandoval has been charged with felony fleeing and eluding police among other traffic and crimes cod offenses, according to the McSherrystown Borough Police Department.
