NEW OXFORD, Pa. — An Adams County woman is facing multiple charges after police say she ran into a creek in an attempt to avoid being arrested by a Pennsylvania constable earlier this month.
Chris Lloyd, 52, of New Oxford, is charged with felony counts of escape, disarming a law enforcement officer, and endangering the welfare of children and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and use/possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to the alleged incident, which police claim occurred on May 21 in the area of South Browns Dam Drive.
At about 1:20 p.m. that day, Reading Township Police claim, Lloyd was having a warrant served by the constable, who had placed her in handcuffs.
When the constable moved her handcuffs to the front so she could sign the warrant, Lloyd allegedly ran away, leading the constable on a 50-yard chase through nearby woods and creek.
The constable allegedly tried to deploy a taser to stop her, but missed, according to police.
The constable then radioed for police assistance, according to the criminal complaint affidavit filed against Lloyd.
Arriving officers found Lloyd at the far side of a creek, still resisting arrest and attempting to escape while still in handcuffs. She was allegedly trying to grab at the constable's belt, near where his weapon was located before she was tackled and taken into custody, the complaint states.
Lloyd was found to be in possession of a backpack with marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside, police said.
She is currently being held in Adams County Prison after being arraigned on the charges. Bail was set at $1,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, according to court records.
